This upcoming week Texas A&M University and MSC Town Hall have the privilege of hosting Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors! If you’ve already bought your ticket, then get ready for an amazing night full of heartwarming music. For those who haven’t bought tickets yet, or are wanting to learn a little more about Drew and his music, this article is for you! We had the opportunity to interview Drew to learn about the band’s roots, see a preview of what to expect at the show, and what surprises he has in store for the concert.

Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, Drew, a graduate of UT (University of Tennessee – Knoxville, not that T-sip territory in Austin), returned home, met his guitar player Nathan and began creating music. Drew then moved to Nashville, where, through Nathan, he would meet the rest of the band. In his words “it was just a bunch of folks who lived in the same neighborhood, hence the name: ‘The Neighbors.’” Drew claims that it’s hard to pin a specific genre to the band’s music. Their music is a mix of a little bit of everything: Rock and Roll, soul, folk, but the band most closely associates with Americana. Similar to their style is their musical inspiration, which is drawn from a melting pot of genres; they just “love good songs.”

For Drew and the band, their performance here in College Station is more than just another show on the tour. Some of the band’s favorite experiences over the past ten to twelve years have been getting to go back and perform in cities where they have previously done shows. Drew recounts how the band’s first performance in the Bryan/College Station area was to an audience of about 30 people. Now, they are coming back to A&M for the second time and plan to fill Rudder Theater. The best part about playing college campuses, to them, is the energy of the students. Despite his Tennessee roots, Drew also goes on to say how welcoming Texas audiences are and how much the band enjoys performing in the “Lone Star State” because of its music history and love of music.

Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors have a special show in store for us, y’all! According to Drew, no show is ever the same because of how many songs the band has produced. He goes on to say that at each show, every one of the band members gets to choose some of their personal favorites to perform; not only allowing for variation, but for the artists to truly show us their passion for the music. Also don’t expect to hear only Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors originals. Drew said that the band likes to throw some covers in to the set list too! Drew wanted to let the Aggies and the B/CS area know that “We

[the band] are proud Tennesseans, we respect the pride of Texas, but they need to come and experience a little Tennessee love for the night!”

After reading this I hope you are as excited for November 5th as the members of MSC Town Hall, Drew, and the rest of the band are! Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
