Odd Folks is a College Station based band formed by a class project. The project was to play two shows, however, two years later, Odd Folks is excited that their music is still something people want to hear.  Inspired by bands like Brand New and Jimmy Eat World, Odd Folks creates a genre, they call, New Alternative Rock. Though, they don’t like attaching themselves to a certain genre. To Odd Folks, they are just that, Odd Folks.

Greatest Concert Memory?

Odd Folks’ lead singer, Marco, said his favorite concert memory was their album release show last halloween. He got to pretend to be the lead singer of Simple Plan, as the band did covers of many of their songs. The rest of the band was not so happy about this, because they had to learn the music 18 hours before the show. For Marco, he was living his 15 year old self’s dream.

Do you guys get nervous before a show?

“Definitely. It’s more like an adrenaline rush, though,” said Alex, guitarist. “I get more nervous in smaller crowds because you see their facial expressions and see them leave. I feel like if you didn’t get nervous before a gig, it would show that you didn’t care very much about it.”

Largest crowd you’ve performed for?

Last year at SXSW they performed with a band called Turnover. It was a last minute show that was put it together 18 hours beforehand. 350 – 400 people came out to see them play even though it was not where most of the other SXSW shows were.

Fun Facts:

  • Michael got his motorcycle license when he was 21…. Michael doesn’t have motorcycle
  • Jacob is getting his masters or  maybe PhD in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience, however he says this band is probably the most interesting thing about him.
